Fatima Mahmutović, MA, is a teaching assistant and PhD candidate at the Department of Security and Peace Studies at the University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Political Sciences. She also serves as the department's secretary, and as the coordinator for the doctoral program in Political Science and Security and Peace Studies. In the context of the EUPeace Alliance, Fatima is involved in Work Package 6 (WP6) - Research Hubs and Doctoral Studies, as well as in Work Package 2 (WP2) - Transforming Curricula, specifically within the subgroup focused on the Virtual Exchange European Program (VEEP). Her primary research areas include peace studies, conflict studies, peace education, and hybrid peacebuilding. Fatima has also actively participated in numerous projects and conferences related to peace studies, both as an assistant and a student. Fatima is also a teaching assistant for various subjects, including Peace Studies, Science of Peace, Polemology, International Security, Euro-Atlantic Security, the Security System of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Peace, Gender, and Security, Cybersecurity, and Geopolitics.

Round Table „Für eine wehrhafte Demokratie frei von Gewalt" (Friedensforschung)

Ein wichtiger Tag und großer Schritt für die österreichische Friedens- und Konfliktforschung. Die Bundesministerin Eva-Maria Holzleitner hat im Rahmen eines Round Table zur Friedens- und Konfliktforschung Expert:innen, Politiker:innen, Militärs und Wissenschaftler:innen eingeladen, darunter auch den Friedensforscher Josef Mühlbauer (Universität Graz), Claudia Brunner (Universität Klagenfurt) und Kolleg:innen der Universität Innsbruck.

Spezialisierungsschwerpunkt "Conflict Dynamics & Peace in Democracies" (Lehre Uni Graz)

Der Spezialisierungsschwerpunkt der Friedensforschung, innerhalb des Fachbereichs Global Governance an der Universität Graz, behandelt die Entstehung und Bearbeitung von Konflikten: auf lokaler, nationaler und transnationaler Ebene (von interfamilären bis zu internationalen Konflikten). Vermittelt werden Methoden zur Analyse von Konfliktursachen und Dynamiken (z.b. widerstreitende Interessen, strukturelle Ungleichheit, Ressentiments, Gruppenzuordnungen) ebenso wie ein interdisziplinäres Repertoire an Möglichkeiten zur adäquaten Intervention in einer Konfliktsituation, von rechtlichen über politische bis zu zivilgesellschaftlichen Instrumenten – im Kontext des jeweiligen politischen und gesellschaftlichen Systems und der Rechtsordnung. Zu diesen Instrumenten gehören das Recht zum Schutz von Bevölkerungsgruppen und zur adäquaten Einbettung von in säkulare politische Gemeinschaften, Methoden der Konflikttransformation, der Prävention von Gewalt und Radikalisierung oder Maßnahmen der politischen Bildung. Sie dienen – komplementär zum Recht – der Bearbeitung von Konflikten in einer Demokratie.

Unter dem Motto: „Der Weg zur mehr Demokratie – anti-autoritäre und herrschaftskritische Entwürfe“ organisieren Prof. Dr. Uwe Bittlingmayer, MMag. Utta Isop, Mag. Thomas Stölner, Josef Mühlbauer uvm. eine Tagung in Wien. Mit dabei sind renommierte Schriftsteller wie Ilija Trojanow, Kunstschaffende wie Konstantin Wecker und zahlreiche Professor:innen und Aktivist:innen. Summer School "Climate Peace and Security in Sub-Saharan Africa"

Hosted by the University of Graz and the Austrian Center for Peace (ACP), the summer school was held at the Austrian Forum for Peace at the Peace Castle Schlaining from June 30 until July 3, 2025. Organized by Dr. Maximilian Lakitsch (University of Graz) and assisted by Josef Mühlbauer (University of Graz), this year's summer school provided an excellent opportunity for students and practitioners from around the globe to connect with experts and explore the climate, peace, and security nexus. At the end, the participants received a certificate.
